Altium releases dedicated TASKING toolset for Renesas Technology's new R8C/Tiny

SYDNEY, Australia—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Oct. 20, 2003— Altium Limited (ASX:ALU), a leading developer of Windows-based electronic design and development software, today announced the release of a new TASKING embedded software development toolset that will target the new R8C/Tiny microcontroller from Renesas Technology Corp. The high-performance 16-bit R8C/Tiny, announced last month, offers a small pin count and flash memory at a very competitive price, allowing developers to target a broad range of applications. The new TASKING R8C toolset brings embedded developers the power of Altium's proprietary Viper(TM) compiler technology and its integrated embedded development environment, allowing them to take full advantage of the benefits of this new, cost-effective MCU.

"The R8C/Tiny's ability to offer high performance at a low cost is well complemented by Altium's high-quality TASKING software development tools," says David Noverraz, product manager support tools, Renesas Technology Europe. "Altium's dedicated toolset provides the ability to develop highly efficient code which is both fast and compact, enabling Renesas Technology's customers to fully exploit this low-power and low-noise microcontroller."

"The R8C/Tiny provides developers with the best performance-to-cost ratio in the industry," says Jeroen C. Verheijen, product manager for TASKING tools, Altium. "TASKING customers benefit from our close relationship and continuing support of Renesas Technology by gaining immediate access to the newest architectures from Renesas Technology."

By working closely with semiconductor manufacturers to support new architectures as soon as they are available, Altium continues to break down the barriers to innovation and technological advancement, and provide every electronic engineer and embedded system developer with easy access to the best possible software development tools.

Pricing and availability

The TASKING R8C/Tiny Software Development Toolset v1.0r1 includes the TASKING EDE, C compiler, CrossView Pro simulator and ROM monitor debugger and R8C Flasher, and is now available on PC/Windows. This package starts at US$1,990 for a PC/Windows single-user license.

A demo version of the toolset is available from http://www.tasking.com or on CD-ROM from any of the Altium Sales Offices or distributors. For more product information, visit www.tasking.com or contact your local Altium Sales and Support Center.
